Driving through northern Guatemala with a group of backpackers

On January 2nd, 2002 Matt, Joe and I embarked on a 12,000 miles journey from
Seattle, Washington to Panama City in a 93 Astro van. 6 months later Panama
City proved to be the "end of the road" for us, both geographically and
economically. The Darien Gap, a dense jungle of flora and fauna (and
guerilla warfare), separates Colombia from Panama and prevented us from
driving into South America. The Pan American Hwy ends at the Darien Gap
(but continues in Colombia) and has never been opened up in an effort to
prevent Columbia's civil war from flowing into Panama. Our van was sold and
the trip ended on June 25th, 2002.
